Animator Based Melee Branching Combo System

I am working on a melee based game that will have a combo system. I have left and right mouse buttons for light and heavy attacks, say for instance I use light>light>heavy will do one combo then light>heavy>light>heavy>heavy will do another, etc. I know some code but I don't know a lot of advanced scripts and everything so a little explaining will be good. I will use the animator component to do the combos and this is a 3D game. Help will be much apricated. Let me know if I left anything out that would be needed.
